Well I cannot quite believe where 2015 has gone! I still feel new to WSR and like I’ve only been driving the BMW 2 minutes!
Congratulations to Gordon Shedden who was a worthy winner this year. Team Dynamics have clearly done a great job with the new Type R and Gordon knows how to win a championship. It did look a little desperate for him after Race 2 but he produced a great drive in Race 3 albeit with the help of some of the rest of the grid!
The week post Brands Hatch was certainly interesting! Especially on Twitter – everyone seemed to have an opinion on the ‘Aaron Smith should he helped Jason Plato’ saga!
My original point was quite simply why have a Team press release clearly putting the blame at one of your drivers. Regardless of who is right or wrong, my view is that those sorts of things should be dealt with behind closed doors. I have no involvement with Team BMR so it’s ill-informed of me to comment on what really should have happened when I don’t know what was or wasn’t agreed prior to Sunday’s three races. Perhaps JP was correct in his outburst if Aaron did go against what was originally agreed? Who knows?! Only those sat in the meeting.
It did certainly cause a stir on twitter though! Oh and I gained 300 twitter followers in the space of 12 hours… maybe I should start being opinionated more often! Ha!
Since Brands, I took part in the Dunlop Soft Tyre Test along with Colin Turkington and Matt Neal in helping to evaluate 2016 options. It’s all good experience for me to have to work with Tyre Technicians and help evaluate compounds. I don’t know which of the options they have selected for next year but from reading the press it seems Dunlop do so it’ll be interesting to see what they have decided and how it impacts next year’s races!
Silly season is well under way and I keep hearing and reading all sorts. Some of it does keep me amused. Andrew Jordan is the first big name to make a switch – going to Motorbase’s Ford Focus and I am intrigued to see how he will fare next year. I guess a lot of his success will depend on how much of the Turbo Boost they are allowed to keep! (Sarcasm intended).
As for me, well we are negotiating hard on a deal for next year. I really want to be back in the BTCC and I feel like it’s where I belong. For my three seasons in BTCC thus far I have finished 6th, 7th and 6th so I’m getting hungry to push on and break into that top 5. Hopefully 2016 will be the breakthrough I’m looking for.
