Action resumed at Snetterton race circuit near Norwich, after a six-week break following the Porsche Supercup race at the British Grand Prix. Having done no testing at all during this period, I visited the track the week prior to shake off the rust and get my head into the new 300 configuration.
During Friday’s two practice sessions I found myself consistently near the top of the timesheets. The balance in the car was great almost immediately and further tweaks throughout the day only made it better. It was probably the most successful Friday thus far this season, which bode well for Saturday afternoons qualifying session.
I was eager to get on with qualifying and so chose to go out immediately as the session started. After my first three-lap run, I was second, less than a tenth of a second behind Michael Meadows. I returned to the pits and waited until the final minutes of the session before going back out. This time, I got my final two laps perfect to go over two tenths quicker than anyone else and secure double pole!
I felt quietly confident on the grid for Round 11, believing that I had the pace to lead from the front and potentially win. Thankfully, I got off the line well and protected my lead into turn one. From there on, I slowly built up a lead on Meadows, setting the fastest lap and a new lap record in the process. The car was fantastic and stayed very consistent throughout. Over the remaining laps, I backed off a little to ensure I didn’t make any mistakes to take my second win of the season.
With any pre-race nerves put to bed after Race 11, I was determined to make it the double in Race 12. For the second time in a day and most unlike me, I got another great start, leading by over a second after lap one! From there on I built up a lead of three seconds from Meadows who was being harassed by Ben Barker. Unfortunately Barker piped me to the fastest lap by a mere three hundreths of a second – the only disappointment in an otherwise perfect weekend, taking my second lights-to-flag victory of the day.
It really was a weekend where absolutely everything went right and I could do no wrong. The car was fantastic from the start of the weekend - a pleasure to drive throughout and I owe Team Parker a huge thank you for that. Two wins has rocketed me to second place in the championship and Meadows is certainly not out of reach. There are still eight races remaining this season and hopefully these results can give me the perfect platform for the second half of the season.
